Scope
This Refund Policy describes when Markup will issue a refund or credit for a paid subscription. It supplements the Cancellation section of the Terms of Service.
Cancel anytime
You can cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings page or by emailing legal@getmarkup.ca. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You keep paid access until then.
No prorated refunds
We do not provide prorated refunds for partial months. You keep access to paid features until the end of the period you have paid for.
Annual subscriptions follow the same rule: if you cancel mid-term, you keep access through the end of the term you paid for. No prorated refund is issued.
Material service failure
If you experience a material service failure caused directly by Markup (not by an upstream provider such as Stripe, Brevo, Supabase, Vercel, or DeepSeek), you may request a credit or refund within 14 days of the incident by emailing legal@getmarkup.ca with: the date and time of the incident, what you tried to do, what happened instead, and any error messages you saw.
We will respond within 5 business days. If a refund is approved, it is issued to the original payment method through Stripe and typically appears within 5 to 10 business days depending on your card issuer.
What does NOT qualify for a refund
Upstream provider incidents (Stripe outages, Brevo email delays, Supabase downtime, etc.). These are subject to those providers' own service-level commitments, which Markup does not extend.
Errors or losses arising from your use of the AI-assisted quote builder. The AI is a starting point, not a replacement for your professional review.
Errors or losses arising from tax calculations, holdback figures, or filing deadlines displayed in the Service. You are responsible for verifying tax and CRA information with a qualified accountant.
Errors or losses arising from an invoice generated by the Service failing to qualify as a 'proper invoice' under section 6.1 of the Construction Act (Ontario). Confirming compliance is the issuing contractor's responsibility.
Dissatisfaction with a feature or design choice. Use the 14-day free trial to evaluate the Service before committing to a paid plan.
Chargebacks
If you dispute a charge through your card issuer instead of contacting us first, your account is suspended pending resolution of the dispute. We will not refund any chargeback fees passed through by Stripe. Please contact legal@getmarkup.ca before filing a chargeback; the vast majority of billing questions can be resolved by email within a day.
Free plan and trials
The free plan and 14-day free trials are not refundable because no charge is made. At the end of a trial, the account downgrades to the free plan unless you have added a payment method.
Data after cancellation or refund
You can export every record we hold for your account in JSON or PDF at any time, including after cancellation. Use the "Export my data" button on your Profile page.
We retain records for seven years for CRA compliance purposes. Access is restricted after account closure but data is preserved. You may request earlier deletion of data we are not required to retain by following the Privacy Policy.
